Daniel Bellino Zwicke

SUNDAY SAUCE has been a BEST SELLER in ITALIAN COOKBOOKS and PAST COOKBOOKS ever since it hit the shelves bacck in 2013. The book was The # 1 BEST SELLER - ITALIAN COOKBOOKS for the Most Amount of Time for the two years of 2013 - 2104 , beating out such notable Italian Cookbook Authors as Lidia Bastianch , Giada DeLaurentis, Marcella Hazan, and Mario Batali.

The main theme of Sunday Sauce is center around the greatest dish in all of Italian-Amaerica. The dish has been a Sunday ritual of millions of Italian immigrant families in America for more than 100 years. There are various versions of the dish that is made with a few different meats slowly simmering in a sauce of tomatoes seasoned with garlic and onions and the meats themselves which may include Sweet Italian Sausages, Meatballs, Braciole, Pork Neck, and Pork Spare Ribs of which Daniel loves to put in his.

There are recipes for Sunday Sauce aka Gravy from the movies Goodfellas and Francis Ford Coppola and Mario Puzo 's Godfather, where we see director Martin Scorsese 's father Charles Scorsese making Gravy (Sauce) in Prison with Ray Liotta, Frank Pelligrino Senior, and Mob Boss "Big Paulie Vario" played by Paul Sorvino.
On to The Godfather where we have the famous scene with Clemenza (Richard Castellano) showing Michael Corleone ( Al Pacino ) how to make Sauce (Gravy) for 20 Guys someday. Corleone Capo Pete Clemenza tells Michael you fry some onions and garlic in Olive Oil, put in Tomatoes, salt & pepper, a little wine, "you shove in your Meatballs and your Sausage. And that's my trick."

Sonny Corleone (James Caan) tells Clemenza, "Knock it Off. I got important things to do here." The scene is part of Italian-American and movie folklore and people just love it. The reccipes are in Sunday Sauce, along with Dolly Sinatra 's Spaghetti & Meatballs, and Joe DiMaggio 's mothers Sunday Gravy as well.

Sunday Sauce is filled with wonderful stories of Italian-America, the ritual of the Sunday Gravy, of Pasta Nights, Meatball Parms, and most of all, friends and families sharing a meal together at the table, with good times, love and happiness. And in this day and age of families not talking to each other and getting together at the dinner table because the children can't get off their phones or stop playing video games for hours on end, the message of Sunday Sauce bring people together for nice Italian meal at the table, the message is more important than ever, and Daniel teaches and inspires just how to do it yourself. To have a happy meaningful meal at the table with ones loved ones, its so simple and wonderful to do. Daniel will show you how. It's all in Sunday Sauce - When Italian-Americans Cook a Best Selling Italian Cookbook by New York Italian-American Author Daniel Bellino Zwicke.

The RAGU BOLOGNESE COOKBOOK

As Daniel States in his book description, for years he kept his Famous Recipe for Ragu Bolognese a Secret. He has loved cooking Italian Food for many years, and is often asked what is his favorite thing to cook? The answer Meat Ragu and especially Bolognese Sauce aka Ragu Bolognese, of which The Journal of Italian Food Wine & Travel once wrote that Daniel's was the Best in the country, and some say the World. Daniel says he especially loves to make his Bolognese Sauce because it is just so dam tasty, it's economical, and it brings people together, the same as Daniel's message in Sunday Sauce and all his wonderful Italian Cookbooks, is making wonderful Italian Food and bringing people together, sharing a meal at the table. Enjoying the food and Italian Wine, each others company, conversation, music by Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, and good times that enrich your lives. Daniel does it quite well, and the Ragu Bolognese Cookbook is a Winner. And oh yes, we almost forgot. As Daniel states in the cookbook, he thought long and hard about publishing his famous recipe for Ragu Bolognese, but he did. He says, that if he charged the price of the book for the Bolognese Sauce Recipe  alone it would be a steal and more than worth it. But he didn't although he could have as there are many avenues these days to do so, simply selling one great recipe on its own. But know Daniel didn't do that. No he gives you his World Famous Recipe for Ragu Bolognese, and he gives you much more.

Besides Daniel's Secret Bolognese Sauce there are recipes for John's Secret Chicken Cactiatore, Lasagna Bolognese, Spaghetti Meatballs, Marinara Sauce, and much more. Again, this book is a winner, and we just love it, especially Danny's Bolognese.

LEARN How to Make SUNDAY SAUCE alla CLEMENZA

From THE GODFATHER

Cousin's Antony & Daniel make an awesome SUNDAY SAUCE with Sausage, Meatballs. and Pork Spare Ribs .. We just love it .. Here they make this Gravy at Tony's father's house in Lodi, New Jersey which was at one time 100% Italian, mostly from Sicily and Napoli  .. Tony & Daniel's grandfather and grandmother were from Lercara Friddi Sicily, the same town that one Charles "Lucky" Lucciano was from, as well as another Jersey Boy named one Francis Albert Sinatra (Frank Sinatra) ...

Excerpted from SUNDAY SAUCE - When Italian-American Cook
Of all the fine traditions of the Italian-American enclave in the United State, the Sunday afternoon ritual  of making  and eating a Sunday  Sauce, a.k.a. “Gravy” is Italian-America’s most Time-Honored of all. Mamma, Grandma (Nonna) will make her celebrated “Sunday Sauce” and all is glorious. Sunday Sauce? What is it? Well, first off, Sunday Sauce, or as some call it, Gravy or simply “Sauce,” is without question thee number-1 undisputed “Supreme Dish” of our great Italian-American Cuisine and the Italian-American enclave as a whole, “It doesn’t get any better than a Sunday Sauce.” Ok, now, to be more specific for those who may not know about Sunday Sauce, there are a number of variations on the theme. Most Sunday Sauces are made with Italian Sausages, Braciole, and Meatballs. Some people make their versions with; Beef or Pork Neck, while others make their Gravy (Sunday Sauce) with just Sausage and Meatballs, like Pete Clemenza, or the most popular version of; Sausages, Meatballs, and Braciole.  Some may throw some Chicken Thighs or a Veal Shank into this mix. Sunday Sauces can be made with any combination of these aforementioned meats. The meats are slowly simmered for several hours in a “Sauce” made with tomatoes, minced onions, and garlic. I generally like to make my Sunday Sauce Gravy with  Sausages, Meatballs, and Pork Ribs. Other times I’ll make it with Sausage, Meatballs, and Braciole.  An old tradition in some families is that mother or Grandma would start the Sauce early on a Sunday morning, get all the ingredients in the pot and start the Gravy simmering away for a couple hours on top of the stove, then put it in the oven for a couple hours while everyone goes to Church. When you get back home, the Sauce would be ready, “ready to be devoured that is!”
Our family would usually start our Sunday meal with the most traditional Italian-American-Antipasto of roast  peppers,  Salami, Olives, Celery, and  Provolone.  After that, it’s on to the Main Event of Maccheroni and Sunday Sauce, a dish which is something so Blissfully and Pleasurably Sublime, that it is almost “Sinful.” Yes it is.
When a meal centered around a Sunday Sauce is announced, one can have visions of Blissful Ecstasy at thoughts of eating Pasta laden with Italian Sausages, Savory Meatballs, Beef Braciola, and succulent Pork Ribs. All this has been slowly simmered to culinary perfection. Yes just the thoughts can enrapture one into a delightful frenzy of the “Most Blissful Feelings” of smelling, seeing, and consuming all the ingredients, the Sausages, Meatballs and Gravy. Yes a Sunday Sauce can and does have such effects on one’s mind, body,  and soul. And, I do not want to sound prejudice, but this is pure fact, it is the Male of the Italian-American species who Love The Sunday Sauce in all its form, far more than the female sex.  True! Meatballs too! And Italian-American men and boys Love and hold oh-so-dear, their Meatballs, Sunday Sauce, Sausage & Peppers,  and Meatball Parm Sandwiches.

I didn't know what to expect before I loaded this on to my Kindle and started reading. The premise of the novel is a set of Italian recipes with each one accompanied by a story. This is the first of its kind that I've ever read or even heard of, so I thought I'd give it a chance and wasn't disappointed after finishing it a few days ago.

Daniel does a great job of creating the recipes and making sure that each one feels authentic and taste wonderful. All of the stories with each recipe is also well done and does a great job of connecting the food to the story. It's hard to figure out which one is more enjoyable. The story side or the recipe side of this novel, but I had to chose it would be the recipe side of the novel as the recipes are truly great and highlight Italian cuisine.

If you're looking for a great cook book to give you some great Italian dishes to try out all courses, with a few stories to read while your food is cooking, then this is definitely the book you've been looking for. As it does a splendid job of creating wonderful, quality meals.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bellino-Zwicke captures the Italian-American Kitchen!, August 14, 2014

Regretting the lack of Italian-American heritage in my blood line! Bellino-Zwicke captures the full experience of Italian-American kitchen. Sunday Sauce isn’t just another recipe book. Bellino-Zwicke shares the stories and heritage that make us all wish were Italian-American.

From music to real wine advice, the book explores what it means to make an Italian-American meal. The book is so special because it is about the experience not just the recipe. It is so great to have someone take the time to capture a little bit of their everyday life.

The recipes are actually doable! I really hate when I buy a cookbook that calls for obscure items or the ingredient list is a mile long. The recipes are real recipes that you can add to your meal-time rotation. The Green Bean recipe is simple but a real keeper. I will be making more of everything I have tried, especially the Sausage and Pepper Frittata.

Next up is his Mommy’s Stuffed Cabbage!

This review is from: SUNDAY SAUCE - When Italian Americans Cook: Secret Italian Recipes & Favorite Dishes .. Italian Cookbook with Clemenza Spaghetti & Meatballs Sunday Sauce Godfather Gravy (Kindle Edition)
Get ready to sit back and let the feeling of an Italian-American Sunday wash over you! In Sunday Sauce, Bellino-Zwicke captures the full essence of Italian-American cooking, it isn't just about the food (although the food superb).

He draws us into the kitchen and tells one tale after another, in a manner that makes us feel like we are enjoying a great afternoon cooking with loved ones! He even provides music suggestions for when you are cooking, to capture the full experience.

I am always on the lookout for new recipes to add to the dinner time rotation. Our garden has been overflowing with green beans and I was tired of our regular recipe, so I started with the Green Bean recipe and wow is it a keeper. I am looking forward to years of Lucia Bellino’s Stuffed Peppers and the Sausage and Pepper Frittata.

Next on my list of recipes to try is his Mommy’s Stuffed Cabbage!
