Robert M. Parker Jr. The Emperor of Wine

The Emperor of Wine? A book on Robert Parker the world's most influential wine critic. Some would say greatest. Wine Critic that is. I wouldn't, neither would quite a bit of others. Robert Parker, to me is actually one of the World's Worst. As a wine critic. He has done more to ruin what great wine is and what the average perception of the grape nectar is and should be. Yes I'm definitely one of his critics, on the negative side. Robert Parker has great influence of the worlds wine and what people drink, what some consider great, and which demand high prices. Like Napoleon, another Emperor, "too much power corrupts." As is the case with Parker, for high highly tauted and influence power on which wines people buy, has influenced the making of really wonderful natural wines in a most detrimental way. Many winemakers have altered their style of making their wines according to what Robert Parker likes and his style of wine and the high scores they garner. Robert Parker likes big fat heavily oaked styles of wine, and this has affected the making of many of the worlds wines in a most negative way, whereas instead of a winemaker making whatever their particular wine ( a Cote du Rhone, Chianti, Barolo, etc.) in the manner that is most classic in the particular area the wine is from, according to the land and climate (terroir) and traditional style of the area. Instead of making the wine the way it should be made, many wine makers in all the great wine regions of the world will make a Parkerized Wine, or wine in the style Parker likes and gives high scores to, on his 100 Point Rating System. In the world of wine and selling it, a score of 90 or more from Robert Parker in the Wine Advocate, Parker's famed wine news-letter is a guarantee of success of accolades and gang-buster sales and prestige to the wine, the winemaker, and the particular wine estate.
Yes, Robert Parker has great influence and power, and this my friends for wine, the wine world, and restaurants (who sell a large percentage of all the world's wines) is a "Very Bad Thing." People of the World, "Wake Up," Don't be Followers but leads. Don't read Robert Parker, don't think what he says the final and only word (Far from it). Robert Parker is bad for wine and where it has gone in the past 30 years of his influence and power. It's time to Revolt and stop the nonsense, stop listening to Parker, read others, educate yourself, make up your own mind.

REVIEW of  The Emperor of Wine,  by Elin McCoy

This book, unlike Robert Parker is great, it's wonderful. I loved it. Although I don't realy care for Robert Parker as a wine critic and wine-professional, I loved the book and the story of Mr. Parker, it's very interesting and quite fascinating to say the least. The book is fabulously written and most informative, and is a "Must Read," for anyone in the restaurant or wine business, as well as being a great read even if your not. It's just a great read. And I might as well give this book a score in the famed manner of ratings of Mr. Parker and on a 100 Point Scale. For me, this book, THE EMPEROR of WINE  The Rise of Robert M. Parker Jr. rates 92 big points. Yes pretty dam good. A 90 or more with Robert Parker is as good as Gold, so is the book by Elin McCoy, "Great Job." !
